Top 10 Favorite True Crime Documentary Series

Are you a true crime junkie like me? There is no doubt that streaming services have provided those of us who like to be armchair investigators learn about crimes, past and present. From the United States and all over the world, crimes that fascinated us were put to the small screen. Here are my Top 10 Favorite True Crime Documentary Series of 2021:

10. This Is A Robbery

This Netflix series explores the 1990 unsolved robbery of Boston’s Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum and is directed by Colin Barnicle.

09. John Wayne Gacy: Devil In Disguise

Through interviews and archival footage, we get a look at the double life that Gacy lived as a monster who went after children.

08. Sophie: A Murder in West Cork

Made by the production company Lightbox, ‘Sophie: A Murder in West Cork‘ is a three-part true crime Netflix documentary directed by John Dower.

07. Sasquatch

Sasquatch‘ is a three-part documentary series on Hulu directed by Joshua Rofé. It recounts the tale of investigative journalist David Holthouse who looking for clues about a triple murder that is said to be the work of Big Foot.

06. Wilderness Of Errors

Marc Smerling directs this five-part FX true crime documentary series. ‘A Wilderness of Error‘ explores the case of Jeffrey MacDonald, who was convicted in 1970 of killing his pregnant wife and two daughters.

05. The Motive

The four-part Israeli true crime documentary seriesThe Motive‘ tells the story of the murders of married couple Nissim and Leah Cohen at the hands of their son.

04. Meet Marry Murder

Meet Marry Murder’ is hosted by actress Michelle Trachtenberg and focuses on spouses who killed their partners.

03. The Sons of Sam: A Descent into Darkness

Directed by Joshua Zeman, ‘The Sons of Sam: A Descent into Darkness‘ is a Netflix documentary miniseries that tells the story of journalist Maury Terry and his obsession with New York serial killer David Berkowitz.

02. The Raincoat Killer: Chasing a Predator in Korea

The Raincoat Killer: Chasing a Predator in Korea‘ is a three-part true crime documentary discussing the case of Yoo Young-chul, who went on a killing spree in Seoul.

01. Murder Among The Mormons

Murder Among The Mormons‘ is a three-part true crime documentary series produced by BBC Studios that tells how Mark Hofmann made counterfeit historical documents and eventually went on to commit murder.
