‘Batman: The Adventures Continue’ S2 Issue 5 Comic Book Review

DC Comics continues to bring us ‘Batman: The Adventures Continue’ Season 2 with issue 5. Alan Burnett and Paul Dini are writing the story and Rick Burchett is handling the artwork. He does a good job of capturing the classic Batman: TAS look which is where this comic book series is based.

After a body washes up in the Gotham City bay, Batman, Nightwing, Robin, and Batgirl are stunned when former Mayor Emerson Mayfield has returned to throw his hat into the upcoming special mayoral election. Batman reveals to his family that Emerson was mayor fifteen years ago and led an “M-Force” to bring order to Gotham City. They went rogue, forcing Batman to shut them down and forcing Emerson to leave. Now the former mayor is back and when the body is revealed to be one of Emerson’s old campaign staffers, the Dark Knight and his companions realize there is more at stake as Emerson rises in popularity.

Dini and Burnett started this series by duplicating older stories such as Red Hood and Court of the Owls, but they have recently been shifting to more original stories and introducing original characters. I am enjoying how they are keeping the core of Batman: TAS, while also using the comic book medium to expand on the mythos for the Batman.
