Sledge X: SHR’s “Conjunction Junction” (Cover) Music Review

Schoolhouse Rock was an educational program that brought academics to children from three different generations. One of their most popular songs was “Conjunction Junction” in which Alfonzo Rachel dropped a Sledge X cover through his Bronze Serpent Media imprint.

My man Zo can rock a guitar. He is multifaceted, of course, playing the drums and other instruments, but man, his guitar work is sleek. Here he drops a hard rock version of the educational song and he definitely puts his style on it. This version is definitely fun and I had such a good time listening to it. Hearing the “Conjunction Junction, what’s your function” lyrics sung in a hard rock style definitely made for a good time.

The music video was a lot of fun as well. Zo rocking it out in front of a green screen with images of locomotives brought back memories of the old cartoon. Zo put this animation effect on himself and the images to play up the nostalgia of the song. This worked very well for him, matching the iconic jingle perfectly.

You can never go wrong with a cover from Zo. I always get excited to see him drop a new one along with his ZoLoft podcast.

“Conjunction Junction” was written and composed by Bob Dorough in 1973. The original version was sung by Jazz legend Jack Sheldon as well as Terry Morel and Mary Sue Berry.
