My Happy Marriage Volume 4 by author Akumi Agitogi and illustrator Rito Kosaka continues the stormy romance of Lord Kudo and his meek wife Miyo.

Lord Kudo and Miyo make their engagement official, which prompts curiosity among Kudo’s inner circle including those in royalty. Miyo has also become friends with Hazuki, Kudo’s older sister, who helps her adjust to being in high society. However, a mysterious man Arata Tsuruki arrives who may provide a clue to Miyo’s past, even as she struggles with nightmares.

I am not a big reader of romances, much less historical fiction mixed in with a bit of fantasy, but here I am. This is one of my super cute wife’s favorite mangas, prompting me to read it. I ended up enjoying it but probably for a different reason.

Besides the stunning artwork, I enjoy it for the fact that it is devoid of woke nonsense. Lord Kudo is strong, confident, and focused on his work, but also on being a good fiance to his soon-to-be bride. He desires to help Miyo through her difficulties and has no hesitation in protecting or rescuing her.

Miyo is meek, mild, and still struggles with the abuse she suffered at the hands of her family. Despite this, she maintains her grace and her beauty as she prepares for a marriage that was originally meant to just get rid of her but now is a true romance.

These factors make it interesting, along with the conspiracy that something strange is going on in Japan as seals preventing supernatural incursions are being broken. These factors and the fantastic artwork make for a compelling plot. I cannot wait to see what happens next in the story or how the anime plays out.
