‘Black And White Volume 2: Man VS. Machine’ Graphic Novel Review

Black And White Volume 2: Man Versus Machine is an indie comic released by HS Studios. It is drawn by Art Thibert who co-wrote it with Pamela Thibert and Joe Fulton.

Jake Chang, known as JC, is a robotics engineer with delusions of grandeur. He launches his plan to go to war with the world and conquer it with his robotic army. John “Reed” Blackett aka Black and Whitney Sung aka White decide to confront him, but she only wants revenge for Jake betraying her family. As chaos ensues, Black has to convince White that there are bigger things at play than her vengeance as JC activates his army.

First of all, the cover by Art Thibert is chef’s kiss. Do not get me wrong, the variants are excellent too, but the main cover (seen above) is detailed with a fine toothcomb. Bravo!

I also liked the interior art. It is done with precision and expertly conveys the story. Both Black and White get full body shots in their uniforms and in civilian clothes. These character designs, not too mention the action sequences, work out perfectly and set an excellent tone for the plot.

Speaking of the plot, I was hooked. This is an action comic book that you do not want to miss. The characters are intriguing and the villain is compelling. I think you will have a good time with it and enjoy it. I backed the crowdfunding campaign for it and I would do it again, no questions asked. The graphic novel teases a third volume. Count me in!
