‘Yi Soon Shin: Warrior and Defender’ Issue 2 Comic Book Review

Yi Soon Shin: Warrior and Defender is a historical fiction comic book series that takes place in the 1500s. This first arc was released in 2009 by Onrie Kompan and David Anthony Kraft.

After Admiral Yi Soon Shin gave the Korean navy a decisive victory against the Japanese invaders at the battle of Okpo, Japan summoned Baron Seo. He is a Korean warrior who betrayed his own nation so he can join the Samurai. When Yi hears of this, he develops a risky plan to protect his soldiers from the traitor. Little does he know, a group of ninjas have infiltrated Korea and they are coming for Yi.

Once again, I found the artwork to be impressive. I will not repeat all of the praise from the first issue, but this one echoes that praise. Baron Seo is drawn with excellence and he is truly foreboding when he stands before allies and enemies alike. I also liked the cover art for this one. Onrie Kompan Productions did a good job with the artwork for it.

Also, this one raises the stakes. Admiral Yi proved his skills to the Korean military with his initial victory, so Japan brought in a truly formidable opponent. Those raised stakes made the story much more exciting to read and I look forward to reading it.
