‘War Lion’ Issue 1 Comic Book Review

War Lion is a futuristic Martial Arts comic book with the first issue written by Onrie Kompan and drawn by Dexter Wee.

War Lion is a vigilante living in a region called Sector 2687 which is controlled by the Overseer. After his wife is brutally murdered, War Lion slays her killer and goes into hiding with his daughter. She begs her father to teach her his Martial Arts skills and he obliges. During this time, the Overseer continues his brutal reign, a father and daughter team that is planning for the ultimate revenge.

Martial Arts and sci-fi dystopias are always fun. The same is true here. I did not know what to expect when I bought this issue from Mr. Kompan himself at a comic convention. Needless to say, I had a blast. This excellent start for the series immediately pulls you in and you do not ever put the comic down. War Lion’s quest is one that is non-stop, but you do not want it to end.

As for the artwork, it is very good. I especially liked the designs for the city. It looked like a dystopian wasteland just ripe for a revolution. I also liked the design for War Lion and his daughter, which truly brought about the epic tale you were reading and enjoying.

I am excited about the indie comic book scene. There are so many talented writers and artists popping up.
