‘Reacher’ Season 2 Review

The action television show Reacher smashes its way into a second season. Nick Santora returns as the showrunner and Prime Video streamed it.

Jack Reacher (Alan Ritchson) discovers a code in his ATM and realizes it is from Frances Neagley (Maria Sten), a member of his defunct MP unit. Someone is killing their old unit off one at a time. They quickly find survivors Karla Dixon (Serinda Swan) and David O’Donnell (Shaun Sipos). With the help of a New York detective Rocco (Domenick Lombardozzi), they learn a weapons manufacturer could be dealing under the table with the help of mercenary A.M. (Ferdinand Kingsley) and Reacher’s former unit members stumbled on it while working there. The Chief of Security for the firm Shane Langston (Robert Patrick) sees them coming and makes plans to take out Reacher and his remaining friends.

The first season focused on Reacher getting revenge for the death of his older brother and dealing with small-town politics and police. This time, we get another look into his past set during his military career when he commanded a military police unit and in the big city. This was the perfect build-up from its predecessor with his world.

I love that they do not tone down Reacher. He is a tough guy who gets it done. Even his friends sometimes are shocked by his focus, but they all ultimately trust his judgment, even when they do not care for his methods. The four main characters have really good chemistry as they try to solve their friend’s deaths while dealing with some serious firepower and a tough New York cop who is not afraid to give his opinion. It was a change of pace from the first season, but one that was needed.

It is nice to watch an action show that does not get bogged down in the politics of the day. It stays relevant by staying out of it which is why I enjoy watching Reacher taking out the bad guys and taking names. I cannot compare the show to the novel series by Lee Child which serves as the source material since I have not read them, but this show is one of my favorites.
