Sledge X: the Isley Brothers’ “Fight the Power” Music Review

“Fight The Power” by the Isley Brothers was a hit single they released in 1975 that would go on to be featured on their album ‘The Heat Is On.’ My man Alfonzo Rachel released a metal cover of it for his musical project Sledge X through Bronze Serpent Media.

From funk to heavy metal, when a song gets a cover in a different genre, you do not know what to expect, but Zo can bring on the jams. I particularly enjoyed the guitar playing in his rendition of the song and the drums go along pretty well. This particular version has an edge to it and it is pretty clear why.

Zo has been a consistent target for shadow-banning on all major social media platforms. In this movie video, he provides receipts for this with images of DMs he has received from the platforms. Despite this, and from personal conversations I have had with Zo, he keeps fighting the power and this song shows his resolve.

“Fight The Power” was written by guitarist Ernie Isley with the band’s keyboardist Chris Jasper helping out with the composition. When the song was released, it became number one on the U.S. Billboard R&B and peaked at number four on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.
