Words Of Wisdom From Star Trek Captains

Gene Roddenberry created a world where humanity has learned from its past and has entered an era of space exploration with his science fiction franchise Star Trek. The Captains were often the protagonists who would explore strange new worlds. From their experience, they would often dispense wisdom to their fellow officers and boldly go.

“I’m not an ape beating its chest! I’m a thinking, rational being!” – Captain Pike, “The Cage” (Unaired Pilot)

“You know that pain and guilt can’t be taken away with the wave of a magic wand! They’re the things we carry with us, the things that make us who we are. If we lose them, we lose ourselves. I don’t want my pain taken away, I need my pain!” – Captain Kirk, Star Trek V: The Final Frontier

““Someone once told me that time was a predator that stalked us all our lives. I rather believe that time is a companion who goes with us on the journey and reminds us to cherish every moment, because it will never come again. What we leave behind is not as important as how we’ve lived. After all Number One, we’re only mortal.” – Captain Picard, Star Trek Generations

“Part of becoming Human is learning to have compassion for those who are suffering, even when they’re your bitter enemies.” – Captain Janeway, Star Trek Voyager “Prey”

“Dying lets you off the hook. The question is, are you willing to live for your people? Live the role they want you to play? That’s what they need from you right now.” – Captain Sisko, Star Trek Deep Space 9, “The Siege”

“I’m going to ask all of you to think back to the day when this ship was first launched. We were explorers then. When all this is over, when Earth is safe, I want you to get back to that job. There are four hundred billion stars in our galaxy, we’ve only explored a tiny fraction. You have a lot to do. Of all the captains who will sit in this chair, I can’t imagine any of them being more proud than I am right now.” – Captain Jonathan Archer, Star Trek Enterprise, “Azanti Prime”
