Where does wisdom come from? The Old Testament poetry book Proverbs has the answer. The collected knowledge of these authors reminds us that it comes from God. If you look at chapter nine, we learn it begins with the fear of the Lord. This is a hallmark position of Christians. Here are 10 Translations of Proverbs 9:10:

“The fear of Jehovah is the beginning of wisdom; And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” – ASV

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.” – AKJV

“The start of wisdom is fear of Yahweh, and knowledge of the Holy One, insight.” – LEB

“Reverence for the Eternal, the one True God, is the beginning of wisdom; true knowledge of the Holy One is the start of understanding.” – VOICE

“The starting point for acquiring wisdom is to be consumed with awe as you worship Yahweh. To receive the revelation of the Holy One, you must come to the one who has living-understanding.” – TPT

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” – NASB

“For the reverence and fear of God are basic to all wisdom. Knowing God results in every other kind of understanding.” – TLB

“The fear of Jehovah is the beginning of wisdom; and the knowledge of the Holy is intelligence.” – DARBY

“The fear of Adonai is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of holy ones is understanding.” – CEB
