‘Murder At Carter County Mines’ Documentary Review

Murder At Carter County Mines is a short film documentary that aired on Investigation Discovery before streaming to the MAX app.

When a humble Kentucky couple seemingly disappears, their friends and relatives become concerned. Investigators start trying to forget what is going on, especially when they find a lot of blood inside the house. With no leads, it seems the case may go cold, but when a credit card slip hints at something else, the investigation takes a dark turn.

This is a stunning special on a murder. This case could have been a footnote in some true crime manual, but instead, the case of a husband and wife who seemingly vanish in rural Kentucky is given the spotlight. While crimes like this typically get ignored, this time it gets shone as a terrifying part of reality.

As a short true crime documentary, it is well done. It hits all of the notes. When the happily married couple vanishes, friends and family discuss what they were thinking at the time of the crime. We hear from their loved ones and the police officers who were investigating the crime. I liked how the film managed the interviews and established the timeline.

Basically, the short film documentary brought the crime in a realistic way. It explored the leads, connected the viewer with the victims, and showed how justice was served. It was well-made and very interesting.
