‘One-Punch Man’ Season 2 Anime Review

Now directed by Chikara Sakura, One-Punch Man season two was produced by J.C. Staff who also released twelve episodes in 2019. It is based on the action superhero comedy manga by Japanese author known as One, the illustrator Yusuke Murata, and released by Shonen Jump.

Following the events of season one, the world seems at peace until the villainous Garou (Greg Chun) arrives to prove that he is not just a man, but a monster. Meanwhile, Saitama (Max Mittelman) befriends the S-Class hero King (Rich Brown), who turns out to be a fraud. Genos (Zach Aguilar) continues to rise in the ranks. However, an army of invading monsters throws things into chaos, and with the high-ranked occupied Garou decides to take the opportunity to target heroes and has a few run-ins with Saitama.

J.C. Staff takes over the show and does a good job with the animation. Their team certainly did excellently in bringing the character designs and the action sequences smoothly. I cannot complain about that aspect of it.

While I definitely loved Saitama’s return with his apathetic attitude toward being a hero, I did find the story a bit lack. There was just too much going on. The heroes were trying to stop Garou, there was a subplot with a Martial Arts tournament, and the growing entourage that Saitama attracts. It got a little troublesome to keep up with. That is not to say that it was boring, it was just a lot to follow.

That being said, I still had a good time with it. The new team may have tried to do too much in just a span of twelve episodes, but I cannot say that it disappointed me. Saitama still delivers some excellent one-liners and Genos increases the search for answers about his past.

I am looking forward to the announced third season.
