Anglican Bishop Desmund Tutu (October 7, 1931 – December 26, 2021) did not simply sit by and preach from a pulpit. He was an active member of the community and an outspoken defender of justice. Here are ten amazing quotes from Bishop Tutu:
“Forgiveness is one of the key ideas in this world.”
“If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor.”
“Freedom and liberty lose out by default because good people are not vigilant.”
“You don’t choose your family. They are God’s gift to you, as you are to them.”
“Resentment and anger are bad for your blood pressure and your digestion.”
“God has such a deep reverence for our freedom that he’d rather let us freely go to Hell than be compelled to go to Heaven.”
“I don’t preach a social gospel; I preach the Gospel, period. The gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ is concerned for the whole person. When people were hungry, Jesus didn’t say, ‘Now is that political or social?’ He said, ‘I feed you.’ Because the good news to a hungry person is bread.”
“Forgiveness is an absolute necessity for continued human existence.”
“Our faith, our knowledge that God is in charge, must make us ready to take risks, to be venturesome and innovative; yes, to dare to walk where angels might fear to tread.”
“The gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ is concerned for the whole person.”
