Switchfoot brings us “California Christmas,” a special track from their 2022 Christmas album. They released the song and the accompanying music video ahead of their tour.
While this band is typically known for its rock and roll vibe, they also have their chill vibe. That is the impression I got with this song. Having lived in California, I can attest to the accuracy of several of the lyrics. California definitely has hot days while others are playing in the snow. They definitely captured that feeling with this song and made it a lot of fun to tell the story. They hit on the West Coast and find the gems of the winter season.
I also liked the music video. It is another one of those live recording videos where the band plays their instruments and sings. I loved how each one of them had a different style of shoe while they were performing the song. I spotted sandals, crocs, tennis shoes, and hiking boots which displayed the different types of terrain in California. It was a nice touch for the song.
“Plant your mistletoes in the sand next to me,” they wrote on their Facebook page. “‘California Christmas’ is a Christmas tree planted in the sand at our hometown break. What does California Christmas look like where you are?”
