‘The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special’ Film Review

The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is a Marvel Cinematic Universe Christmas film directed and written by James Gunn. It was released as a Disney Plus exclusive.

As the Guardians of the Galaxy help repair Knowhere, Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) is feeling homesick due to it being Christmas time. After Kraglin Obfonteri (Sean Gunn) tells this about how Yondu (Michael Rooker) ruined Christmas for Peter, Mantis (Pom Klementieff) and Drax (Dave Bautista) head to Earth to kidnap Kevin Bacon (Kevin Bacon) while Rocket (Bradley Cooper), Groot (Vin Diesel), Nebula (Karen Gillan), and Cosmo (Maria Bakalova) distract Quill. When Drax and Mantis arrive in Hollywood, they soon find themselves in a bit of trouble.

Billed as a TV special, the movie definitely plays off the humor that makes up The Guardians franchise. It was a little cheesy, but honestly, I had a good time watching it. Chris Pratt, of course, stole the show and really put on his best as Star-Lord and the others do a good job playing off him. I also liked the expansion of Mantis. She and Drax had decent chemistry, but Klementieff was miles ahead of Bautista. I would be remiss if I did not mention Kevin Bacon, who brought some solid laughs during this shorter feature.

Bottom line, The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is a bit cheesy but it was a lot of fun.

PARENTAL CONCERNS: Violence, Some foul language
