Jonathan Young (And Collaborators): Encanto’s “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” Music Review

Lin-Manuel Miranda wrote the lyrics and the music for “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” from the animated film ‘Encanto‘ and is sung by several of the cast members of the movie. Jonathan Young works with Caleb Hyles and Anna Pantsu to bring us a “cursed” version of the hit song with some rock influences mixed in.

Using his signature rock style, Young brings us a trio that sings a song about a pariah within the family. He can see the future, but his visions are thought to have caused any negative outcomes, but he gets no credit for the positive things. Young and his collaborators bring out the best parts of the song, making it a good tribute to the original song.

I liked this “cursed” version, giving it a Halloween vibe. This rendition makes the song spookier than it was in the movie and everyone’s voices mix well together. They all have good chemistry as they tell the story of Bruno, or at least the family’s impression of him. I also liked the artwork for the lyric video. It had a zombie or ghoul style that matched with the genre of the song. It definitely paid homage to both the film and the song itself. With the hard rock music and pounding composition, you will love adding it to your jamming playlist. Just don’t talk about it.
