Oscars 2022 Best Picture And Other Nominees Revealed

It was a calm Tuesday morning in Los Angeles when the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences dropped the Oscar nominees for the 94th Academy Awards. With several categories, I want to pinpoint the “Best Picture” and “Best Animated Feature Film” from their official website.

The Best Picture nominees include:

  • The Power of the Dog
  • Dune
  • Don’t Look Up
  • Licorice Pizza
  • West Side Story
  • King Richard
  • CODA
  • Belfast
  • Drive My Car
  • Nightmare Alley

I’m actually surprised. I’ve seen King Richard and Dune, that is two on the Best Picture list that I have seen. That is rare. Noticeably absent is Spider-Man: No Way Home and Nobody. Those two films should be swapped out for Don’t Look Up (which no one liked) and the child exploitation drama Licorice Pizza, but the MCU and an action flick get snubbed because general audiences loved them.

The Best Animated Feature Film nominees include:

  • Flee
  • Luca
  • Encanto
  • Raya and The Last Dragon
  • The Mitchells vs The Machines

Three of these movies are Disney. This is an obvious giant Academy Award suck-up to the Mouse. It is blatant and obvious. They also snubbed Demon Slayer: Mugen Train and My Hero Academia: World Heroes’ Mission. Both should have been on this list. There is no disputing that. Demon Slayer should have also been on “Best International Film” but it was snubbed there too.

The show is planned for Sunday, March 27, 2022. As for my predictions, I was wrong last year and I admit it, but I’ll still take a crack at it. I think either Don’t Look Up for its “climate message” will win OR West Side Story for its “diversity” despite both those films not proving popular with audiences. For animation, I think it will be Encanto. Pixar always seems to have the upper hand on animation.

Despite the continual pushback, the Oscars continue to give high-fives and back pats to their elitist friends’ vanity projects instead of cinema that actually reaches the audience. It is embarrassing, especially since Spider-Man swung in to save the entertainment industry, but did not even get a “thank you.”
