I had been to Anime Pasadena in 2019 and I had a blast. Thanks to panic surrounding a virus of unspecified origins, the event was delayed until this year. I just could not pass up the opportunity to attend and I was NOT disappointed.
Day one, my super cute wife explored the art galley and it was loaded with talented artists, craftsmen, sculptors, and fashionistas. We ended up purchasing illustrations from Cowboy Bebop, Genshin Impact, The Rising of the Shield Hero, and more! We spent most of the day here.
We also met the founder of the Science Fiction Coalition who told us about an anime we had never heard of called Star Blazers. Needless to say, he sold us and we are adding it to our playlist. If you are familiar at all with my work, you know I picked up a couple of indie comic books. We also met a brother and sister tag-team who did some seriously cool work with stickers and we ended up grabbing a few Demon Slayer products.
Day two, we heard some live bands from the main stage that were actually pretty good, doing covers of various anime OTs. I think my favorite was the Irodori Idols. We also hit the autograph hall where I got to get a pic with Colleen O’Shaughnessy, who has voiced many awesome characters, but will reprise her role as Miles “Tails” Prower in the Sonic the Hedgehog sequel. I also got to meet Superman himself, George Newburn, who voiced the character in Justice League Unlimited and the Injustice games.
Besides anime, we also saw some other pop culture franchises like Star Wars, steampunk, gaming, and sci-fi which were represented by cosplayers and exhibitors.
While we decided to skip the panels, we hit up the Okamoto Kitchen food truck both days for lunch. We were not disappointed. Their food is awesome.
The weekend was a blast and a ton of fun. Sure, there were some oblivious folks, but the organizers did a good job of keeping things moving and efficient. It was a ton of fun and I cannot wait until next year.
