‘Super Dead’ Comic Book Review

SUPER DEAD‘ is a horror superhero comic book written by Mandy Summers and drawn by Peter Gilmore. It was created via a highly successful crowdfunding campaign.

Beneath the city of New Astoria, there lies a monster. A hero who was once known as Valor has become an undead creature living in the sewers trying to fight off his urges to kill. One day, things change when he sees a sign for the city’s new hero Omega Atlas and he becomes jealous. Of course, Omega Atlas is saving the day, but he is truly a terrible person. In front of the cameras, he is charming and debonair, but in private, he senselessly kills any villain and harasses the women he saves. However, a force is coming, one he is not ready for.

If there is one thing Mandy Summers knows how to write, it is horror. This comic book had me up late wanting to see what happens next and waiting with anticipation for a climactic battle. Without giving too much away, I was not disappointed. It is incredibly well-written and well-drawn. Gilmore gives the comic an edge to it that brings out the plot and the terror behind it. I honestly hope we get a sequel SUPER DEAD as I would love to see a “where are they now?”

Now, there are two versions of the cover, one drawn by Gilmore and another by Jon Malin, which is the one I ordered. They are both good and I highly recommend them.
