‘BRZRKR’ 3 Comic Book Review

BRZRKR issue 3 is brought to us by actor Keanu Reeves and comic publisher Boom Studios. It is written by Matt Kindt and drawn by Ron Garney. It is definitely for mature audiences.

This story relays the growth of the Berzerker as he helps his father conquer other tribes, all to seek his approval. When he is as young as a teenager, his father would send him to war and he soon becomes the Unute, or dog of war. Though he fights loyally, he grows weary of the death he brings, but continues to kill. His mother begs her husband to stop the killing, but he wants to use the boy to continue his campaign. In the present, the military doctors continue to try to unlock his immortality as his savagery continues.

The artwork in this one is particularly excellent. Garney does a great job of bringing the ancient times to life as we see the Berzerker’s early years. It truly brought out the gory action and how it shaped him. He does a good job showing the emotions and the rage.

As for the story, wow what an advancement. The story is moving at a good pace with Kindt and Reeves bringing it all together. This overall plot is one of the best in comic books these days and this one issue is perfect at giving insight into the protagonist’s motivations.
