‘Offworlder’ Issue 1 Comic Book Review

Written by Mike Baron with artwork from Jordi Armengol, ‘Offworlder’ comes from the mind of Ben Henderson and released through Fanatic Comics. I know I am late to the party with this one, but I jumped in on the “last chance” campaign. I am so glad I did.

Henry Gunn is a mighty warrior in the land of Caledonia fending off raiders who are there to take his country and the women as slaves. A mysterious woman arrives to inform him that they must prepare for enemies from the sky. She is a princess of Egypt who received a message from a god she worships with this warning. Convincing Gunn to listen, he has a vision of monsters coming not just to destroy his land, but all of civilization. However, other enemies are surrounding Gunn from all sides.

Armengol is a talented artist who does a good job with both the action sequences and the character designs. He truly brought the characters to life and I particularly liked a scene where Gunn has a vision. It was illustrated in a cool way.

Henderson is incredibly creative and partnering with ‘Nexus‘ writer Mike Baron to craft this story was an excellent idea. They make an excellent team. You can definitely feel Baron’s style in the story as we see Gunn meeting a stranger with a message. That plot is interesting and entertaining. It does end on a bit of a cliffhanger, so I hope we get a follow-up where we see a conclusion because Gunn’s story is more interesting than anything I have read coming from mainstream comic pros.
