Jonathan Young: “Divided” Music Review

Jonathan Young brings us the original song “Divided,” a single he made in collaboration with Howard Benson, Neil Sanderson, and Judge & Jury Records.

Jonathan Young called the song, “One of the heaviest songs I’ve ever made” on his Instagram. He is telling the truth. I am a frequent listener of Young’s music and I love the heavy metal that comes with his music. From doing epic covers to your favorite movie songs to now doing some pretty cool original stuff. His album Starship Velociraptor, which featured “Final Frontier,” has some of the best originality that I have heard in a while, especially in his genre.

As for “Divided” specifically, it rocks hard. It is a song about a falling out. It could be the collapse of a friendship or the break-up of a dating relationship. Whichever one strikes your imagination you can hear. The lyrics are tough, but they are also clever. Likewise, the music composition is impressive. He said it was heavy and as I noted above, it is. I thought it rocked hard and enjoyed it a great deal.

I also thought the lyric video was impressive. It was done by Lars Hellhammer, who overlayed the lyrics on Young singing through a red filter. It was pretty cool.
