‘Stryde: Ascension’ Comic Book Review

Comic book writer Thomas Retzke teams up with an army of artists for the highly successful crowdfunding campaign for ‘Stryde: Ascension,’ the third entry into the comic book series.

Cobalt is still at arms’ length with his old sidekick Stryde. The latter feels betrayed by his former mentor after he caught him stealing money from drug lords. However, they have put aside their differences to stop a human trafficking ring that is working through their city of Denver, Colorado. The villain Animus and his master are preparing for the arrival of the two super heroes.

The artist team consists of Hunter Murray, Pradeep Sethi, Bea Navarro, Aan Turnip, Damian Navarro, and Hwk, all who provide their touches to different parts of story. Each has their strengths and do an excellent job.

Writer and creator Thomas Retzke does an excellent job with the story. Cobalt has vibes from characters like Daredevil and Batman, but he stands on his own two legs as the protector of Denver. Stryde is very well developed as the sidekick. He is similar to Nightwing in aesthetic, but has his own unique qualities that pull you into the story. It is very well-written and I proud that I supported the crowdfunding campaign.
