Home Free/Don McClean: “American Pie” Music Review

Iconic musician Don McLean partners with the all-vocal band Home Free for a remix of his hit song “American Pie.” Armed with a beatbox, the whole group brings it together.

McLean and the boys of Home Free do a good job of bringing a new spin on the song. With McLean at the lead, each member sang a different verse, each blending with excellence. Now, it is not as good as the original, obviously, but I still thought that it was a good remix. I also enjoyed the music video was pretty cool. McLean still has a good voice and a lot of talent, bringing it together.

For those unfamiliar, the original “American Pie” was released in 1971 and was an instant hit, becoming a number one hit. Later, it became certified gold in the United States and platinum in Britain. In 2017, the song was inducted into the National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress as being “culturally, historically, or artistically significant.”
