‘One Piece’ Pirate Manga Celebrates 1000th Chapter

Fan-favorite manga series ‘One Piece‘ reached an incredible milestone when it published its 1,000th Chapter in the Japanese magazine Weekly Shonen Jump. Created by iconic writer Eiichiro Oda, the series has been running since 1997.

For those unfamiliar, the story follows the rubber-powered Monkey D. Luffy, captain of the Straw Hat Pirates, seeking to become the Pirate King. Along the way, Luffy recruits several pirates to his crew as they search for gold, particularly the Gol D. Roger’s treasure also known as the One Piece.

The manga evolved into a highly popular anime that was originally dubbed in English by 4KidsTV, but has since been picked up by Funimation. The series has over 950 episodes as of the writing of this article.

Funimation celebrated the manga’s milestone on their blog saying,

“Chapter 1,000 is a huge milestone for One Piece, and Episode 1000 is just around the corner at less than 50 episodes away! At the adaptation rate of the series, it is likely that the events of Episode 1,000 may even line right up to what we see in this latest chapter, but we’ll just have to wait and see!

For now let’s celebrate the mind-boggling milestone that is 1,000 chapters of One Piece, a series that is easily one of the greatest shounen stories of all time, earning its 1,000 chapters, prestige and massive loving fandom as it continues to inspire generations of honorary Straw Hats. Thank you, Oda-sensei!”

Earlier in 2020, Oda gave an update on the series, saying that he has “four or five” years left in the manga, later saying the Straw Hat crew is “headed toward the upcoming final saga,” according to HypeBeat.
