‘Limetown’ TV Review

Limetown‘ was a streaming television show based on the fictional podcast of the same name by Zack Akers and Skip Bronkie. All ten episodes were directed by Rebecca Thomas.

Lia Haddock (Jessica Biel) is a radio host who is investigating the mysterious disappearance of the Limetown residents, including her scientist uncle Emile Haddock (Stanley Tucci). The town had a standoff with the police after they murdered the founder and neuroscientist Dr. Oskar Totem (Alessandro Juliani), after which all 162 citizens vanished without a trace. On the tenth anniversary of the disappearance, Lia sets off with her producer Mark Green (Omar Elba, billed as Alexander Black) to interview someone claiming to be a survivor. This leads her to another and with her boss Gina Purri’s (Sherri Saum) blessing, she starts to unravel the strings of a conspiracy that some powerful people want to keep under wraps.

One of the things I enjoyed about this show is that each episode does a good job of keeping you invested in the plot. The runtime is only about half an hour per episode and it stays tied to one solid story arc, so you do not feel bogged down. The plot is also very entertaining and you genuinely wonder about the mystery. At the risk of spoilers, the series was canceled after one season, so it ends on a total cliffhanger. That was disappointing. Is the show perfect? No, but it is fun to binge.

As for Jessica Biel, she does an excellent job. While her character is shown to have compassion and empathy, you feel her obsession as she makes some truly reprehensible decisions, but she does not do this in coldness. She feels sad about the hard choices she makes, but since the show is canceled, we will never know the consequences of some of these occurrences.
