I have made no secret about my distaste for the pile of steaming mediocrity that became of the Disney Star Wars trilogy under the director of LucasFilm President Kathleen Kennedy, along with movie director JJ Abrams and that other guy Rian Johnson. Now, there have been a few updates regarding this discussion.
Now, according to the YouTube channel OverlordDVD, there have been rumblings that not only will Kathleen Kennedy’s contact be allowed to expire, but that Disney is actively courting to have George Lucas return as the head of LucasFilm.
“As with all of these rumors originating inside Disney and/or Lucasfilm, I cannot independently confirm what I am about to tell you,” he warned according to a transcript from Bounding Into Comics. “So I urge you to regard all of what follows as rumor. And take it with a grain of salt.”
Channel host Doomcock explained, “One of my agents asked one of our informants, ‘Are the rumors about Kathleen Kennedy leaving BS or is there something to it?’ The informant replied that ‘No, it is most assuredly not BS.’”
Doomcock then said that Kathleen Kennedy is in talks to go to JJ Abrams’ production company Bad Robot, though he dismisses this. As for Lucas, he said, “The really big news here is a rumor I received 10 days ago. Disney wants George Lucas to take the reigns from Kathleen Kennedy and save Star Wars.”
“Yes my friends, 10 days ago I received the following rumor from my source,” he added. “Disney investors have been trying to get George Lucas back for a few months now. Up until a few weeks ago, Lucas would change the subject when asked about returning, avoiding the topic, or responding in a noncommittal way. Well, about three weeks ago they asked Lucas point blank what would it take to get you on board with heading up Lucasfilm.”
Doomcock continued, “Allegedly, George Lucas said this, ‘If I were to return I have four conditions that would have to be met. Condition 1. I get to make my sequel trilogy. Condition 2. I have full creative power until I decide to hand it off. Condition 3. Kathleen Kennedy is gone. Condition 4. Disney agrees to never ever mess with the original trilogy leaving it untouched.’ Reportedly, Lucas closed out the communication with, ‘None of this is negotiable.’”
“My sources were told that the response to George’s ultimatum was, ‘So when do you start,” he said.
As for how this would affect Jon Favreau, who has been working on ‘The Mandalorian,‘ and rumored to take over when Kennedy left, would take over the development wing with Lucas being the head of LucasFilms.
This rumor does seem to have a few legs to it, but as more rumors spread, it tends to mean the original is not true. However, Doomcock does have a good track record and it could be possible.

One of the concepts I have discussed with guests on my podcast StudioJake is whether the Star Wars franchise would use the concept of the ‘Veil of the Force,’ where Force users can travel in time from within, to reboot the sequel trilogy and erasing all-new trilogy installments. According to Cosmic Book News, the YouTuber Doomcock claims that there is a power struggle within LucasFilm between ‘The Mandalorian‘ creator Jon Favreau and Kennedy over whether to use this technique within the story.
Previously, Doomcock suggests that The Veil of the Force will be used to remove The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, and The Rise of Skywalker “from canon, isolated in their own alternate timeline and regarded as an Elseworlds-like installment under the label of Star Wars Legends.”
He explains, “I have received confirmation from two additional sources claiming that this is spot on, that indeed LucasFilm realizes they have a massive problem on their hands, that the Star Wars franchise is all but dead, and despite Kathleen Kennedy’s hatred of this idea, Lucasfilm is preparing to render the Sequel Trilogy null and void.” He adds that Kennedy is not happy about this because if “the plan comes to pass, everything that Kathleen Kennedy did with the Sequel Trilogy will be destroyed, tossed out and declared obsolete.”
Doomcock seems confident that the reboot will happen, considering that, up until the release of The Mandalorian, there was little interest in both Disneyland’s Star Wars-themed Galaxy’s Edge and products based on the sequel trilogy.
“A massive reset is going to hit the Star Wars universe,” he said before describing how this reset will happen.
“Emperor Palpatine had a room on the second Death Star called The Room of Mirrors. The mirrors were created by The Emperor prior to the Death Star through the Dark Side using ancient Sith rituals. These mirrors linked to the Veil of The Force served many purposes. Using them, Palpatine could manipulate The Force in many ways to further his aims. For example, the use of the mirrors allowed Palpatine to cloud the Jedi Council to conceal himself and his dark apprentices from the Jedi and from Force-sensitives that followed their fall.
Using the mirrors allowed Palpatine to access the awesome powers of the Veil of The Force. They were indispensable tools that allowed him to rise to the pinnacle of ultimate power. It is this conceit that explains how Palpatine survived Darth Vader throwing him down the shaft in the throne room of the Death Star. In desperation, as he fell, Palpatine opened a portal to the Veil of The Force and entered it. This explains why Palpatine is in such a damaged state in the Rise of Skywalker, as transporting himself into the Veil without the aid of the mirrors drained him and damaged him severely.”
Doomcock explains that a character could potentially enter the Room of Mirrors and kill the Emperor, preventing his escape to the future.
“Bob’s your uncle,” he says. “No Disney sequel trilogy, Han doesn’t walk stupidly into a lightsaber, Leia doesn’t fly like Mary Poppins through space, Luke has nothing to run away from and consumes no green milk, and I am informed there will be no amazing ‘wonder Rey’ as she was born after The Emperor’s death.”
“Literally anything is possible here as branching alternate realities converge and diverge in that mystical dimension,” he continues. “What is glimpsed in those mirrors is an alternate version of Rey, and lurking within the Veil are alternate versions of Palpatine, alternate versions of Luke, alternate versions of Han. Somewhere in the multiverse may even lie a version of the Disney sequels that didn’t suck and didn’t outrage and alienate a huge section of the Star Wars fandom, but for now the best we can hope for is using the Veil of The Force to obliterate the Disney sequels banishing them to their own little funhouse mirror in the vast hall of mirrors Multiverse to be forgotten as the substandard garbage they are.”
‘Beyond The Trailer’ host Grace Randolph touched on these initial rumors on social media. “Kathleen Kennedy NOT stepping down,” she wrote. …”instead almost certain her contract, which now ends in 2021, will not be renewed. Just like Ep 7-9 won’t be erased but more ignored. I’ve been reporting all for weeks, people are just putting clickbait spins on the real stories”
This is a rumor, so take it with a grain of salt. If one thing entertainment companies have taught us is that they are incredibly stubborn. Personally, I would love to see Jon Favreau arise to take George Lucas’ place as he clearly understands the Star Wars universe better than the entire staff at Disney. As long as Rogue One stays canon, I am happy.
