Movie Review- Avengers: Infinity War (DVD)

I previously reviewed Avengers: Infinity War on the Daily Wire where I gave an initial evaluation based on seeing it in theaters. Now I want to give my thoughts after seeing it again (okay, twice more) after it was released on DVD. Warning, some spoilers ahead if you have been living under a rock.

Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo with Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige producing, this film is the culmination of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The mad Titan known as Thanos (Josh Brolin) attacks Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and the Asgardians following the events of Thor Ragnarok. After killing Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and Heimdall (Idris Elba), he steals the Space Stone from Thor and sends the Black Order to Earth. Iron Man (Robert Downey. Jr.), Spider-Man (Tom Holland), and Dr. Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) face-off against some of the Black Order in New York where Dr. Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) had been sent by Heimdall. After Strange is captured, Spidey and Stark stow aboard to head toward Titan to face Thanos.

Meanwhile, the Guardians of the Galaxy stumble upon Thor, with Rocket (Bradley Cooper) and Groot (Vin Diesel) traveling with him to get a new axe, but Gamora (Zoe Saldana) is captured by Thanos. He blackmails her into revealing the location of the Soul Stone. On Earth, Captain America (Chris Evans), Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) prepare for a showdown in Wakanda to fight the coming invasion.

This is, by far, one of the best MCU movies. I am so sick of snooty critics (on the Right and the Left) whining about these films. Sure, there are good, bad, fun, and amazing comic book films, but this one will go down in cinematic history.

Since most of the heroes have been built up over time with previous entries to the MCU, the movie focuses on Thanos and Josh Brolin plays him to perfection. He is frightening, deep, and has what makes every villain even more deadly, conviction. He sees his path as righteous and all who step in his way are to be brushed aside. This makes him the deadliest villain in these films.

As for the performances of the others, the ensemble cast bring the whole movie to life. They play their parts incredibly well and I’ve got to shout out Robert Downey, Jr. once again. This is a different man than the one we saw in Iron Man. He has become a father figure to Spider-Man, a leader, and he too is a man of conviction.

That seems to be the central core of the movie. Conviction. Who has the strongest? In this battle where literally the universe hangs in the balance, it comes to a dynamic conclusion that will have us begging for Avengers: Endgame.

  1. […] The Avengers have been assembling to fight crime, take on galactic overlords, battle time-displaced tyrants, defeat mutant terrorists, and stop other villains since 1963 when the team was brought together by Marvel Comics legends Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. Through the years, they have shifted membership quite substantially with some becoming unrecognizable, but they have always fought to save the Earth. Here is my list of the Top 10 Avengers Team Incarnations: […]
