Movie Review- Mission: Impossible – Fallout

Christopher McQuarrie writes, directs, and produces Mission: Impossible – Fallout, the latest in the spy film franchise led by Tom Cruise and a plethora of explosions.

Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) is sent to recover plutonium stolen by by an anarchist terrorist group. CIA Director Erika Sloane (Angela Basset) forces IMF Secretary Hunley (Alec Baldwin) to add Agent Walker (Henry Cavill) to the team to ensure that they get it back from the mysterious John Lark.

Hunt gathers old friends Luther (Ving Rhames) and Benji Dunn (Simon Pegg) so he can stand in for Lark and infiltrate the group through courier named the White Widow (Vanessa Kirby). However, the terrorists want to exchange the terrorist known as Solomon Lane (Sean Harris) who is in the cross-hairs of former MI6 Agent Ilsa Faust (Rebecca Ferguson).

The sixth entry to the Mission: Impossible franchise follows a similar pattern to the previous movies. There is a terrorist group. The spies have to go in disguise. There is a traitor. Oh, and the CIA hates the IMF. That being said, it was nice to see that an actual terrorist group was the villain instead of a random arms dealer.

I will say, Tom Cruise ramps up the action. The stunts, the explosions, and the caper is a ton of fun. While not as good as the previous entry, Fallout is an enjoyable thrill ride from beginning to end. Henry Cavill adds something to the mix. It is nice seeing him not ruin Superman on screen. He makes for a good addition to the franchise. The rest of the cast including Pegg, Rhames, and Ferguson all do their jobs in a satisfactory manner.

If you are looking for something new, do not waste your time. However, it is an intense, adrenaline pump espionage film that you will enjoy.

FAVORITE QUOTE: How many times has Hunt’s government betrayed him, disavowed him, cast him aside? How long before a man like that has had enough?
