Comic Book Review- Sonic The Hedgehog Issue 9

When I heard that Archie Comics was giving up the SEGA-based Sonic The Hedgehog comic book series, I was briefly sad. However, when I heard that IDW Publishing was taking over, I was hopefully optimistic. I am not disappointed.

To recap, Sonic and his friends including Amy Rose, Tails, and Knuckles the Echidna have succeeded in stopping Dr. Robotnik (I refuse to call him Eggman). The former evil genius is living with amnesia in a village where he acts as a Mr. Tinker. However, Metal Sonic (an evil robot version of Sonic) has taken over for his former master. In issues 7-8, he has led an attack and taken over Angel Island and the mystical Master Emerald.

In issue 9, written by Ian Flynn with artwork by Tracey Yardley, the Resistance is back together and they planning on taking back Angel Island with the help of Team Chaotix, Shadow, Silver, Rouge the Bat, and Blaze the Cat.

This story is incredible. While I do miss some of the characters from the Archie series, I am enjoying the re-imagining that IDW is doing in this comic book series. Metal Sonic makes for a terrifying villain and whether or not they decide to bring back Dr. Robotnik remains to be seen, but I have to give props to this series.
