Harley Quinn Returns For Two DCEU Films. Meh.

Margot Robbie is set to reprise her role as Harley Quinn from Suicide Squad in two different Warner Bros. DCEU films Birds of Prey and Joker & Harley Quinn (not to be confused with The Joker, directed by Todd Philips). One film has potential, but the other one not so much.

‘Birds of Prey’ is a staple of DC Comics. They are a group comprised of mostly women that have included Black Canary, Batgirl, The Huntress, Harley Quinn, Katana, and at one point Poison Ivy. Director Cathy Yan is set to helm the film. Robbie is joining some top-notch actresses including Mary Elizabeth Winstead as the Huntress and Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary. Little is known, but Black Mask is the planned villain and the plot will center around Cassandra Cain (who is yet to be cast). This movie could be entertaining at least. So far the cast is dynamite and the villain solid.

Meanwhile, Warner Bros. is set to ruin the greatest comic book villain by repeating the mistake of Jared Leto as the Joker. He proved he could not handle the part, so giving him the role in Joker & Harley Quinn is incredibly stupid. Also, the movie sounds horrible. The rumor is that the film opens with Quinn kidnapping Dr. Phil to give her advice on her relationship with the Joker. What the heck is wrong with them? Whoever is in charge of DC Films either needs to be fired or given a stern lecture. We’ve already got a movie with Joaquin Phoenix as The Joker. Why the heck would they give Leto, who gave an incredibly poor performance, a second chance? It makes no sense.

Now some people would say that I’m just saying this because I don’t like him as much as Heath Ledger so I’m whining about Leto. Not so. Cameron Monaghan has been playing two different version of a Pre-Joker. I’ve enjoyed that iteration. So shut up.

Either way, Leto needs to go away. Snyder is gone. His legacy as the primary director of the DCEU films needs to be erased. Leto’s faux-version was a part of that. Let’s just reset the DCEU and pretend it never happened.

That is my opinion. What did you think? Let me know in the comments below and tell me what stories you would like to see adapted into a movie. Check out my thoughts on the Top 10 X-Men Stories For Film Adaptions. Don’t forget to like, share, and subscribe for more posts like this one.
