With Ben Affleck (Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice) finally out of the way in DCEU, there has been much speculating on who will take on who will take on the role of Bruce Wayne. Unfortunately, Ryan Gosling, yes the heart throb, expressed some minor interest in playing the role. It caused a little of a stir on social media, especially with me.
Fortunately, Ryan Gosling had a little bit of snap and made the right choice when he was asked about the possibility of playing Batman.
This is my problem with Ryan Gosling: he’s got very little range. When he is put in a film that is within his area, he does a fine job as an actor. However, when he is brought into an acting situation that is outside his scope, he tends to waffle a little bit. Case in point, Driver which was not even a good rip-off of The Fast Of Furious.
That being said, I would not put it past Warner Bros. to make this kind of casting mistake like with Jared Leto as The Joker or David Thewlis as Ares, or hiring Zack Snyder as a director. Unlike Marvel, which seeks to cast and hire directors in the way they think will please the fans, WB and DC Comics seem determine to prove that they know better than the fans. Patty Jenkins found that balance, delivering in an epic way with Wonder Woman.
Warner Bros. and DC Comics have got to get their act together and stop with these ridiculous attempts to make a comic book movie “artsy” to please the critics and just deliver a film that will please the fans and the audience.
Give us a good Batman that can deliver a powerful performance in the vein of Christian Bale, Kevin Conroy, or Michael Keaton.
PS: drop the whole ‘Pennyworth’ spin-off. It’s stupid.
Those are my thoughts. What did you think? Let me know in the comments below and tell me who you think should play Batman. Check out my graphic novel review of Black Powder, Red Earth: Yemen. Don’t forget to like, share, and subscribe for more posts like this one.
