Music Review- Rachel Platten: Broken Glass

Rachel Platten’s new album Waves was released earlier this year. She brings a voice that stands out in the pop music genre. Especially with this new song Broken Glass. It is a lovely song that has her signature uniqueness to it.

The song is beautifully written. It has lyrics that are easy to listen to and are thoughtful at the same time. It tackles the issue of being betrayed by friends and peers. Despite the betrayal, Platten reminds us to keep moving forward in our lives, even if it means dancing on broken glass. She definitely performs her songs in a lovely way, forcing the listener to pay attention. I found the song stands out. It does not rehash the same sound from previous songs. That rehashing is a trap many pop artists fall into over time.

As for the music video, it also enjoyable. It is simple, with Platten singing as she is riding a bicycle. It shows images of other people whose circumstances revolve around the lyrics of the song. It is interesting to watch as Platten sings Broken Glass to her audience. If you are new to pop music or even Platten, you may enjoy this song’s quality and for fans of Platten, they will find her unique style of turning songs into something meaningful is on full display in both the song and the music video. You won’t want to miss it.
