Anime Movie Review- Spirited Away (English Dub)

spirited-away-filmDirected by Hayao Miyazaki in the original Japanese version, Spirited Away is a stunning 2001 Studio Ghibli anime production. John Lasseter of Pixar oversaw the Disney English dub version with help from Kirk Wise and Donald W. Ernst who served as director and producer respectively.

The film is about a young girl Chihiro (Daveigh Chase) whose family is moving to a new city. Her family take a wrong turn and end up in an old fair ground. At first, it seems that the fairgrounds are abandoned, but then they find piles of food. Against Chihiro’s wishes her parents begin to eat and then they turn to pigs. As she cries for help, she begins to realize that It turns out fair ground is a gathering place for spirits.

She becomes trapped in the spirit world, but with help from a mysterious boy named Haku (Jason Marsden), she is forced to go on an adventure that features strange and bizarre creatures all in a bath house for spirits.

This is one of the most enchanting stories I’ve ever seen come from Studio Ghibli. It is beautiful, serene, and it never gets boring. Some of the spirits portrayed are a little weird, but the adventure of the tale keeps you engaged.

Disney does a great job of translating the film into English. They have an incredible voice cast that portrays each character with an uncanny talent when it comes to their character.
