My Star Wars Fan Theory On Rey

Rey Star Wars

Okay, so there are a lot of positive reactions to the new Star Wars character Rey. One thing we can agree on, even if you thought Star Wars The Force Awakens was a remake of Star Wars Episode IV A New Hope, like me, or you thought The Force Awakens was the chosen one to bring back the franchise, we all thought Daisy Ridley’s character Rey was really awesome.

We all know that some of these fake fans that hate the prequel trilogy are an ungrateful lot, but we all came together over the fact that we liked the new Star Wars heroes like Poe, Finn, and especially Rey.

One question the film left totally unanswered was, who is Rey? Among other questions were: Where did she come from and who are her parents? How is she growing in the Force so much?

A few fans have put out a couple of theories. One is that she is Luke Skywalker’s daughter. He left her on Jakku to protect her from Snoke and his fallen apprentice Kylo Ren. However, there are a few holes in this theory. If he did what Obi-Wan Kenobi did for him, he did it poorly. Obi-Wan at least left Luke and Leia with a loving family. He just kind of dumps Rey with a seedy junkyard owner. Also, Luke does not seem to recognize her when she brings him his Lightsaber.

Another is she is really Obi-Wan’s grand daughter. Perhaps Obi-Wan got married on Tatooine and had children. There was a lot of speculation of him being in love with people in the old Expanded Universe and Star Wars Clone TV series. However, you would think there is more. Other than his voice in her Force vision, there is not a ton of evidence to support this.

A third one is that she is the daughter of a random pair of Jedi that Luke trained. In the old Expanded Universe, Luke had trained a New Jedi Order and while it did not make it that far in the new universe, he still could have had a handful of apprentices that were killed off by Kylo Ren. Once again, a big hole, no evidence. Other than a vague reference from Han Solo, not many are mentioned except with the toys.

My favorite is this, she is Anakin Skywalker reincarnated. I know this one seems far-fetched, but hear me out.

Remember, this whole idea of a balance between dark and light did not exist until Disney took over the canon. The idea of ‘gray’ was just wishful thinking by fans. The light side being in control was the true balance of the Force as confirmed by Lucas Films.

With that in mind, when the Force first conceived Anakin, it was done with the intention that he would become the chosen one who would bring balance it since the Sith. However, that never happened. Darth Sidious corrupted Anakin and turned him into Darth Vader, shattering the balance of the Force. Since he was the Chosen One, he did not bring balance. After Darth Vader died, Luke Skywalker become the heir to the Jedi.

With no Sith, this brought the Force into balance. Luke began a New Jedi Order and thus there was no need for a chosen one.

Years later, Kylo Ren betrays Luke and turns to the Dark Side, once again bringing the Force out of balance. Thus, there was need for a new Chosen One. Thus, Rey was born.

Now, I know fake fans who hate the prequels will scream that the Episode I, II, and III should be left out of it. Shut up. No one cares what you think anymore.

Moving on, to me, this new Chosen One theory makes more sense. Perhaps her mother was a Jedi who knew the history of Darth Vader and when she had an Midichlorian (oh, yes I did) conception with Rey,  she panicked. This would explain why Rey’s parents would dump her on Jakku. It seemed safe. There had already been a battle with Imperial forces on Jakku, there should be no reason for them to think the Empire would come back. Yes, they should have left her with someone who was a better parent, but in the end, they were afraid she would become another Sith Lord.

That is my theory. Do you agree or disagree? Let me know in the comments below and tell me what your theory on Rey is. Check out my review of the Princess Leia graphic novel. Don’t forget to like, share, and subscribe for more posts like this one.

  1. Great article. 🙂 I like the retro feel of the movie, the previous actors and the nostalgia a lot. I do feel bad for Lucas though sometimes and how so many people were so mean to him about how he decided to do his own movies with the world that he created himself.
