Christian Inspiration: Friendship

01 CI Friendship

Proverbs 17:17- A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity.

Seeing friends come and friends go, some I’m still in contact with, others I’m not. This has gotten me thinking a lot about friendship and what it looks like.

Because two friends drift apart, does that mean that they’re friendship was not as meaningful as the people who go through their whole lives staying together?

These questions have come to my mind often, more recently because I’m teaching my home church’s kids (ages 7-12, usually) about friendship for the month of January.

One day, however, I saw it with the kids.

We were doing a silly little worksheet just to get their mind flowing for the lesson. One of the little girls was having trouble with it. She would just stare at it and whenever me or another teacher would come by offering help, she would say she had it.

However, an older boy in the class walked over and sat beside her. He helped her with the whole worksheet and was patient with her when she made a mistake. He never once insulted her, just stuck with her until she was done. Did they play together afterwards? No, but I could tell the little girl was very happy to have received help and made sure to compliment the boy.

I believe there are two types of friendships: ones that last a lifetime and the ones you have in a season. God places people in your life at the right time and place. Now, they are not for you to just siphon off. Just like they offer a hand to you, be sure to offer a hand back.

When God places a good friend in your life, who builds you up, tells you when you’re wrong, supports you, and is just there for you, be thankful and be a friend right back.
