Graphic Novel Review- The Valiant

From the minds of award-winning comic book writers Jeff Lemire and Matt Kindtamd artists Paolo and Joe Rivera, comes The Valiant, graphic novel that features an all-star cast of characters from Valiant Comics. It features iconic characters like Bloodshot, Ninjak, X-O Manowar, and Geomancer and gives cameos to several other characters.

The Eternal Warrior was given immortality to protect the Geomancer, a guardian of the Earth. However, he has failed to prevent the Immortal Enemy, a fear-based being, from slaying the Geomancer, creating dark ages throughout history. When a new one named Kay is discovered, the Eternal Warrior calls on MI-6 and the Global Agency for Threat Excision for help. They send Ninjak to rescue an ancient warrior named Breaker to open a package from terrorists thanks to Bloodshot.

However, Kay goes off on her own, only to be attacked by the Immortal Enemy. The Eternal Warrior arrives with Ninjak and Bloodshot to stop him. After a distraction, Bloodshot takes Kay to protect her while GATE sends other heroes including X-O Manowar to fight the Immortal Enemy while they try to open the mysterious package. What is the package and can it stop the Immortal Enemy before he kills the Geomancer, plunging the Earth into another dark age.

I will admit, I’m a Marvel fan, particularly Spider-Man, although Batman is my favorite. That being said, I wanted to expand my horizons. I figured The Valiant would be a good place to start since it is a standalone story. I was not disappointed. The story does not need to deep dive into the origins of the characters, but instead relies on the plot itself to develop the characters. It was a gamble and it paid off. I found it entertaining, epic, and unique.

Those are my thoughts. What did you think? Let me know in the comments below and tell me if there’s a graphic novel you’d like me to review. Check out my review of Nexus The Origin. Don’t forget to like, share, and subscribe for more posts like this one.
