Top 10 Dragon Ball Z Sagas

Manga writing legend Akira Toriyama created the epic series Dragon Ball and its follow-up Dragon Ball Z. When he developed our favorite characters like Goku, Piccolo, Vegeta, Krillin, Future Trunks, Gohan, and beyond, did he know what he was creating? DBZ is not only a part of his home country of Japan’s pop culture, but also in the United States with fans everywhere. Not only has it spun off two anime series (I don’t count GT), but there’s talk of a third. Dragon Ball Z was groundbreaking and opened up a whole new anime fandom. The ongoing series was divided up into several sagas that had “filler” episodes in between. Some were as long as several dozens episodes while some have as little as eight. Here is a list of Top 10 Dragon Ball Z Sagas.

10. Namek Saga – Goku goes after the villainous Vegeta to stop Frieza from awakening. Krillin and Gohan go with him and they head to planet Namek. As they travel, Goku trains under King Kai’s telepathic guidance.

09. High School Saga – Gohan is attending High School, but misses being able to fight. He decides to become the cheesy hero Saiyaman and eventually falls for Vidal Satan, the daughter of Hercule Satan.

08. Garlic Jr. Saga – While Goku is training in space, Piccolo, Gohan, and Krillin have to fight an evil being bent on opening the “dead zone” to unleash an undead army.

07. Other World Saga – Goku participates in the Other World Tournament on King Kai’s team.

06. The Saiyan Saga – Goku encounters another of his kind, Raditz who heralds the arrival of Prince Vegeta and Napa. Goku dies and is forced to go to Other World to train with King Kai as the other Z Fighters, including Gohan prepare for the arrival of the evil Saiyans.

05. Trunks Saga – Frieza returns to Earth in cybernetic form for vengeance, but the futuristic version of Vegeta and Bulma’s son Trunk arrives and quickly kills him. Though this saga is brief, it introduces one of the best characters of the series.

04. Android Saga – Dr. Gero, a survivor of the Red Ribbon Army, builds Android 16, 17, and 18 to conquer the earth. Unfortunately, they turn on him and intend to destroy the world themselves. Super Saiyan Vegeta makes his first appearance.

03. Frieza Saga – Goku finally meets Frieza and his rage makes him go Super Saiyan after the evil alien overlord kills Krillin. The fight between Goku and Frieza is in the Guinness Book of World Records for longest anime fight, clocking in at over three and half hours.

02. Majin Buu Saga – This saga had the longest day of any saga. Goku is giving twenty-four hours on Earth of the World Tournament, which is soon interrupted by the wizard Babidi who seeks to awaken Majin Buu. When he succeeds, the creature goes on a killing spree across Earth.

01. Cell Saga – The villainous robotic Cell absorbs the other Red Ribbon androids and people to grow in power before becoming Perfect Cell. The Z Fighters battle him and it soon becomes clear that not even Goku and Vegeta can hurt him.
