Thoughts on Upcoming Gotham TV Series

I watched the trailer for the upcoming Fox television show “Gotham.” It is to act as a prequel of sorts where the focus will be on James Gordon solving the murder of the Waynes. It will feature a young Bruce and many Batman villains in their pre-costumed form.

I have to say that I am not impressed.

I do not know what these Hollywood types are thinking. As a Batman fan, I don’t care about the early years. I know Batman’s origin and why he became Batman. His origin is featured in all of his franchise media. Likewise, in the upcoming Man of Steel sequel, I don’t care to see an older “seasoned” Caped Crusader.

This is what I want: I want to see Batman in his prime defeating the bad guys. You’d think with the success of Christopher Nolan’s hit The Dark Knight, they would have learned their lesson, but no, they keep giving us extremes. First extreme: pre-Batman learning to focus his anger and vengeance. Second extreme: old and is just trying to make it. Third extreme: not in it at all, only referenced.

Give us Batman! That is what the fans want. That was the failing of the short lived Birds of Prey series and the canceled Grayson tv project. No one wants to see Batman mythology without him in it. It is old hat, boring, and no one cares. Hopefully, Gotham will prove that.

I’m a Batman fan and I will give the show a chance, but unless it is really good, I mean Law & Order for over twenty years good, fans, like me, will not back it up and we will see it limp on to maybe three seasons. However, instead of learning that we just wanted to see Batman, they will think that Batman is too risky and not start another project for years.

Hear the message loud and clear DC Comics: GIVE US A SHOW IN GOTHAM CITY WITH BATMAN AS THE MAIN CHARACTER.
