‘Yaira’ Issue 1 Comic Book Review

Yaira is the latest comic book from the Rippaverse. This debut issue is written by the twisted twins of horror Jen and Sylvia Soska and drawn by Débora Caritá.

Following her encounter with Isom, Yaira is on the run from Alphacore members Solari, Braxwell, and Ingrid. She always manages to escape from them, but when three powerful beings arrive in Florespark, Texas, Yaira has a chance encounter with a young woman called Stephanya who seems to have her powers. With Alphacore and these otherworldly beings after her, Yaira takes Stephanya on the run while remembering the past.

I do not know where to begin. This ninety-six-page special delivered on all of the hype surrounding Yaira and her place in the Rippaverse. Now, I did feel that the action got repetitive at times, but outside of that, this was one epic comic book experience. This one is for everyone, whether you are a collector, a fan, or just like cool artwork.

The Soska Sisters are excellent writers and they did an amazing job with the plot. Yaira was always alluring, but this story shows her strengths, weaknesses, and origins, while also hinting at a future in this indie comic book space. They put it all together and made one exciting story.

Caritá did amazing with the artwork. She delivered on every level with character designs, background illustrations, and action sequences. I do hope she returns for another entry into the Rippaverse as I was hooked to how she made the pages pop.

I also want to mention the covers. I got cover D (seen above) from the very talented Mark Evans, but I also wanted to highlight Cover A (see below) from Canaan White. Both were pretty cool and I could not decide between the two. No shade at the other two, these were just my personal favorites.
